El Condesito
El Condesito
Features
Description
This dive takes place in a submarine canyon that holds a fascinating wreck. The El Condesito, a 30-meter cargo ship, ran aground at the southern tip of Tenerife in 1971. The accident left two lasting legacies: the construction of the Rasca Lighthouse—built to prevent further tragedies—and the wreck itself, now one of Tenerife’s most iconic dive sites.
The ship lies broken into several sections at the bottom of a canyon about 20 meters deep, flanked by striking prism-shaped rock walls. Marine life here is abundant, with frequent sightings of octopus, cuttlefish, and vieja.
The site lies just 3.7 nautical miles from Los Cristianos, though currents can sometimes raise the difficulty to a medium level. Divers usually complement the wreck exploration with a tour of the neighboring prism-like formations, whose step-like shapes seem to invite climbing. Thanks to its shallow depth and excellent visibility, El Condesito is also a rewarding spot for snorkelers.
